current obsessions

BOMB GIRLS. I just can't get enough of this show! I'm absolutely in love with Betty, Kate, Marco, and Gladys. Not to mention the wardrobe for the show is just beautiful. Almost makes me wish I was alive in the 1940's.
I can't get enough of telephone purses, which were popular in the 1940's and 50's. I'm crossing my fingers that I'll get one for my 21st birthday!
I have been obsessed with the Titanic ever since I read Polar the Titanic Bear as a young child. I guess I've always been a history nerd, ha! Anyways, there is currently an amazing documentary on Netflix that explores the ship's last few hours. Highly recommended if you're in the mood for a doc!
Who else is counting down the days until True Detective's season finale? I can't even remember the last time I was so invested in a TV show, this series is truly incredible.

Blue Hawaii is just pure visual stimulation. If I had a time machine, I think I'd immediately transport myself to Hawaii circa 1950/60. My grandpa was actually stationed at Schofield Barracks around 1954. I guess my romantic view of Hawaii has stemmed from growing up on his military tall tales.
I recently started collecting bakelite, which is an early plastic that was popular from the 1920's-50's. I have a few bangles so far and a beautiful fruit necklace, I'll share a picture soon!

life lately...

Life lately: lots of snow days, trips to Fort Monroe, celebrating my second anniversary with Daniel, Valentines Day dinner at a pink Victorian home, adventures at the aquarium, & lots of movie watching!

instagram photos from my d.c. trip

For New Year's Eve my boyfriend, Daniel, and I visited his sister who lives near Washington D.C. It was a blast exploring the city and spending time in her gorgeous new home (seriously, she could be an interior decorator.) Daniel and I even went ice skating together, which was kind of a disaster for me, but still fun! My favorite part of the trip was definitely visiting the Exorcist Steps, though, as I'm a huge horror movie fan. It took Daniel and I about two hours to actually find the steps, but it was so worth it! We also got the chance to browse the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Dorthy's red shoes from the Wizard of Oz, the original Kermit the Frog, and dresses belonging to various first ladies were all on display. I definitely can't wait until our next mini vacation!

Daenerys Targaryen
To dress as your favorite Khaleesi:
Here is a really cute prepackaged costume that reminds me of Daenerys' dress in the middle picture. If you are wanting something that you can wear again (or already have), a flowy maxi dress will do the trick. For extra details you will need a blonde wiggold jewelry, and gladiator shoes.

The Mad Men Ladies
To dress as your favorite secretary:
Joan Holloway is known for showing off her curves with a sexy wiggle dress. She usually leans toward solid colored dresses in rich hues, richly colored solid dresses such as this or this. To complete your outfit, include an oversized brooch, Joan's signature gold pen necklace, and put on some red lipstick.
To dress as your favorite housewife:
You can't think of Betty Draper without picturing gorgeous A-line dresses, right? I can totally imagine Mrs. Betty wearing any of these beautiful dresses. Don't forget some classy pearl jewelry, a petticoat
under your gorgeous vintage dress, a strong cocktail, and a pack of cigarettes! Kidding... kind of.
To dress as your favorite(?) Draper wife:
I'm not going to lie, Betty is my favorite Draper wife. Who doesn't appreciate Megan's trendy sense, though? Think stylish mod dressesheadscarves, and bold makeup!

To dress as your favorite virgin who can't drive:
Ugh, as if! Cher would like, totally only be caught in the trendiest of clothes. All you need is a plaid dress, knee high socks, oxfords, a preppy blazer, a black headband, and a fluffy pink pen.
