life lately...

Life lately: lots of snow days, trips to Fort Monroe, celebrating my second anniversary with Daniel, Valentines Day dinner at a pink Victorian home, adventures at the aquarium, & lots of movie watching!

instagram photos from my d.c. trip

For New Year's Eve my boyfriend, Daniel, and I visited his sister who lives near Washington D.C. It was a blast exploring the city and spending time in her gorgeous new home (seriously, she could be an interior decorator.) Daniel and I even went ice skating together, which was kind of a disaster for me, but still fun! My favorite part of the trip was definitely visiting the Exorcist Steps, though, as I'm a huge horror movie fan. It took Daniel and I about two hours to actually find the steps, but it was so worth it! We also got the chance to browse the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Dorthy's red shoes from the Wizard of Oz, the original Kermit the Frog, and dresses belonging to various first ladies were all on display. I definitely can't wait until our next mini vacation!

life lately...

Things have been busy, busy, busy around here. Or at least super stressful.

I've been spending a lot of time at my grandparent's house because my brother (who lives with them) got the most adorable puppy! Her name is May and she's a pitbull/husky mix. I might as well just devote a near-future post to her because she's really stinking cute.

I also got a new job! My first "real" job, which is kind of embarrassing considering I'm twenty years old. Better late than never I guess, ha! I haven't officially started yet, but my boss and I met earlier today and she seems really nice. I have awful social anxiety, so I'm definitely nervous, but I think it will be a good learning opportunity. Trying to stay positive!

Not too much is new around here! I recently started babysitting though, which is nice because I like the kids a lot and needed some extra money. Speaking of babysitting, I may or may not have finished the whole series of The Baby-Sitters club in like two days. I probably should be embarrassed, but lately I've been way too nostalgic for my childhood/the 90's. You know, never fully satisfied with the present.

Oh! I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I've become obsessed with gardening! I'm growing cherry tomatoes, "big boy" tomatoes, yellow squash, red bell peppers, mini bell peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, snow peas, various herbs, and pumpkins! I also planted many different flowers, my hydrangea bush is my favorite though! To be honest I'm not a great gardener, but it's such a relaxing and rewarding hobby. Have you guys planted anything this summer?

current obsessions

This episode of Twilight Zone. I've been thinking about it a lot ever since I visited the apartment complex I lived in throughout grade school.

1960's hair.

This "Wedding in Paris" souvenir brochure from the 1950's. Pink and blue are my favorite colors!

Ann-Margret, who makes me wish I had beautiful red hair.

Josie and the Pussycats comics. Why can't I be a part of a cute all-girls band?

Lipstick inspectors.

This motel sign. I can only imagine what the inside looks like!

Some Like it Hot, one of my favorite Marilyn Monroe movies. I gotta say though, Jack Lemmon definitely steals the screen!

Speaking of MM movies, I'm also completely obsessed with The Seven Year Itch. Richard Sherman's apartment just kills me-- staircases to nowhere, wall to wall bookshelves, his beautiful bar cart & record console, wood furniture, and books on the staircase (!!!). Why can't I live in a cute apartment in NYC and eat chips and drink champagne all day?!

Mimi Farina's wedding style.

I haven't done a ~personal~ post in forever! Although school is finally out (besides one summer course that I'm taking, ugh), I feel like I've barely had any alone time. Don't get me wrong, I love getting out of the house and spending time with others! I've been a hermit for most of my life though, so I'm still not accustomed to being this busy.

ANYWAYS, I turned twenty on May 26th! ...Oh god, why did I feel so ancient typing that out?? For my birthday weekend I went to a carnival with Daniel, made birthday cake cocktails, spent Saturday in the city, went antique shopping with my mom, and then had a wonderful dinner with my family and Daniel.

I've also been spending a lot more time with my best friend who I've known since we were in kindergarten (!!!).  For some reason we always go through periods where we randomly stop hanging out, but we always pick up where we left off. I love spending time with her because she's up for anything and doesn't judge me for being a complete weirdo.

Whew, things have been so busy as of late! The semester finally ended last week, but that also meant  I had to study my bum off for those dreaded exams. I've spent practically every day of summer so far with Daniel, poor guy! ;) We've been watching a lot of cartoons (Batman, Jem, Rocko's Modern Life), making delicious homemade food, and going on bike rides! The weather has been pretty gloomy these past few days, but it's nice to just relax indoors. Can't wait to see what else May has in store for me!
PS excuse the Instagram photos, I've been too lazy to bring my Nikon out and about!
